What should you keep in mind when staying abroad as a language student or trainee/intern?

Language students, interns, doctoral students and students from the age of 30
With GERMAN STUDENT INSURANCE you don’t need to fear high medical costs. The medical treatment of the corona virus infection is covered. In addition, EDUCARE24 includes coverage up to 90 days for medical expenses should you be forced to stay abroad for a longer period of time due to the infection.
Students up to age 29
The medical treatment of the corona virus infection is insured by Techniker Krankenkasse (TK). Exclusively for TK-insured persons there is a “corona virus infection hotline” of the TK-ÄrzteZentrum: 040-46 06 – 61 91 60 (Monday to Friday from 8 – 20 o’clock) and the “TK-Doc”-App” (German). Informations for AIESEC – Insurance cover belongs in your baggage!
The goal and task of the student organization AIESEC is to help students around the world to grow into socially relevant roles through leadership experience. By participating in social projects or internships abroad, you will expand your professional skills, improve your foreign language skills and increase your intercultural communication skills.
AIESEC supports you in your preparations for going abroad, you have to take care of the insurance coverage yourself. Under no circumstances should you travel abroad without a suitable international insurance policy.
What should you do in case you need treatment at the hospital?
During the admission, please present your insurance card and the Ärzte-Info-Ticket (medical info card) which you received with your insurance certificate. Hospitals usually contact us after the admission and the billing will be settled directly with the hospital.
The policy covers emergency treatment and urgent operations within compulsory health insurance without optional services. If such inpatient treatment is not an emergency treatment, we recommend arranging the details of the planned therapy beforehand with our claims department. This way, we can help you to minimize any financial risk.
When will your insurance start?
Language students, intern and doctoral students
The insurance cover of the private health insurance EDUCARE24 (S, M, L or XL) applies as soon as you arrive in Germany.
Students up to age 29
From the beginning of your subject-related studies you will be insured by Techniker Krankenkasse (TK). If you arrive in Germany before the start of your studies at the university, DR-WALTER will provide you with a free additional cover from your arrival until the start of your studies.
Students from age 30
The insurance cover of the private health insurance EDUCARE24 XL applies as soon as you arrive in Germany.
If you pay by credit card, we use the 3-D Secure procedure. It provides additional security for your credit card transactions and reduces the risk of fraud due to card misuse.
You first enter your credit card number. A connection will then be established with the card issuer so that you can confirm your identity, for example by entering a code. If the authentication was successful, the credit card payment is executed. The 3-D Secure procedure should not be confused with your credit card’s check number (CVC).
In order to use the 3-D Secure procedure, you must register with your bank/credit company, which usually takes a few days.
Will your quarantine costs be covered by foreign health insurance?
Quarantine costs are not covered by the foreign health insurance. Quarantine is often prescribed as a precautionary measure.
This is not a medically necessary treatment. If you fall ill with the coronavirus during quarantine, the treatment is of course insured.
