Why is EDUCARE24 considered better than the others and what is it?

EDUCARE24 is the flexible insurance cover for foreign language students, students, guest scientists and PhDs, interns and accompanying family members. For your stay abroad, you should not rely on the first health insurance that comes along. You need an insurance that meets all visa requirements of the immigration authorities and thus ensures a minimum coverage of the health insurance in the amount of 30,000 euros. EDUCARE24 meets those requirements.

Will you be covered if you are infected on your way home?

Upon arrival to your home country, both EDUCARE24 and Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) insurance coverage ends. Please contact your last insurance company in your home country to reactivate it immediately.

What should you do in the even of an illness?

Primary care physicians are responsible for diagnosis and therapy and coordinate the need for further treatment. This includes assessing if they are able to carry out the treatment themselves or if it is necessary to consult a specialist. This makes it easier to coordinate therapies and to avoid that examinations are carried out twice. It furthermore helps to avoid incompatible therapies, interlink medical benefits and reduce costs. This recommendation does, of course, not apply to necessary visits of gynecologists, eye specialists, emergency physicians or doctors on call.

Does it matter if the countries that you’re going to visit belong to different premium categories?

Please proceed as follows: Changing area of validity up to 6 weeks If your stay in a country which belongs to a different area of validity does not exceed 6 weeks, you do not have to do anything. You have worldwide insurance coverage up to 6 weeks. E.g.: You travel to Panama for 6 months. On your way back home, you want to make a four-week stopover in the USA. Please choose “Worldwide travels excluding USA/Canada” as area of validity for the complete duration of your journey. Changing area of validity for more than 6 weeks

What is some information for guest scientists after their stay abroad?

You should always keep your insurance certificate since the authorities in a number of home countries require proof of insurance for the time spent abroad.  

When will your insurance start?

Language students, intern and doctoral students The insurance cover of the private health insurance EDUCARE24 (S, M, L or XL) applies as soon as you arrive in Germany. Students up to age 29 From the beginning of your subject-related studies you will be insured by Techniker Krankenkasse (TK). If you arrive in Germany before the start of your studies at the university, DR-WALTER will provide you with a free additional cover from your arrival until the start of your studies. Students from age 30 The insurance cover of the private health insurance EDUCARE24 XL applies as soon as you arrive in Germany.

What should you do in the even of liability losses?

Liability insurance deals with financial claims caused by your misconduct. Under statutory regulation, the policy covers the risks of everyday life as well as any activities as an intern. The policy includes any third-party claims as well as any personal damage to the host family and other persons living in the household caused by an au pair up to the maximum sum insured; in addition, the policy also covers damage to immovable property of the host family.
