What is the purpose of the blocked account?

With a German blocked account you can prove your ability to support yourself during your stay in Germany. The account will be blocked until you arrive in Germany. Once you have access to the account, a restriction applies: There is a limitation on the amount that can be withdrawn or transferred per month. In general, you need to deposit €800 for each month you plan to spend in Germany. This means you have to deposit a sum of €10,000 if you want to spend one year in Germany. Including fees and a safety buffer of €100, you will usually need to transfer €10,445 for your blocked account in case of a 12 months’ stay in Germany. However, you do not have to worry about these details now. All relevant questions will be clarified during the online opening of your new blocked account.

Will you get the reasons of your rejection from the embassy?

If you get your Visa rejected, you will get a letter by the embassy stating the reasons why you didn’t get your Visa issued! With that information you can either try applying again or write them an appeal letter if you think your application was correct and didn’t need any more documents. Make sure before you do that you go to a counselor.

What do we recommend to language and exchange students?

The PROTRIP-WORLD insurance for language and exchange students adapts to your travel plans. You have the choice between different travel regions and you can also flexibly choose the scope of insurance: PROTRIP-WORLD always includes a strong international health insurance. We especially recommend language and exchange students to supplement their insurance cover with the Comfort or Plus Package to be able to travel and learn without worries. The two packages differ in the scope of the liability insurance. The Plus Package includes a higher basic insurance sum and covers, for example, the risk of losing your keys and damages arising from an act of favor (e.g. if you are helping a friend move). The worldwide assistance helps you in an emergency with a multilingual 24-hour emergency call service. If necessary, the assistant coordinates the contact to the doctor or hospital, issues a cost transfer and organizes further services such as the medical return transport of the patient.

What should you and can you do in the case of an illness?

Foreign visitors are covered by private travel health insurance. Such health insurance covers only acute medical treatment of newly occurred illnesses. Please consider the following three rules of conduct for outpatient treatments:
  1. Please consult a general practitioner before seeing a specialist or going to hospital.
  2. Please provide the physician with our Ärzte-Info-Ticket (medical info card) prior to the treatment.
  3. Please tell your doctor that some treatments require approval and that you need a medical costs projection for these treatments.

Should you inform your insurance provider in case you need to travel to a different country from the one you originally intended to?

You do not have to inform us if you choose to travel to a different country as long as the alternative country belongs to the same area of validity as the country you indicated. If the alternative country belongs to a different area of validity and if you stay there for more than 6 weeks, you need to inform us. Please also note the FAQ “I want to travel to more than one country, and these countries belong to regions with different areas of validity. Which insurance should I purchase?” in the section “Questions regarding application”.

What are the chances of your visa getting rejected if you submit everything correctly?

Therefore, if you don’t get the Visa either try again with the required documents or write the embassy a letter. The letter should be of remonstrance where you complain about the reasons they rejected your Visa. Make sure you go to a counselor before sending it!

What can you do in the event of an illness?

Free Travel Health Insurance offers you, among other things, cover for acute, unexpected illness or injury. If you are ill, first consult a general practitioner or, in the case of toothache, a dentist before going to a specialist or hospital. If possible, please present the doctor with the Ärzte-Info-Ticket (medical info card) prior to any treatment. The card contains information about the type of billing as well as important details regarding your insurance coverage. Doctors can settle their bills directly with us. If the doctor sends the invoice to DR-WALTER, we will transfer the invoice amount directly to the doctor’s account. Do you have any questions regarding the notification of claim?
