With a German blocked account you can prove your ability to support yourself during your stay in Germany. The account will be blocked until you arrive in Germany. Once you have access to the account, a restriction applies: There is a limitation on the amount that can be withdrawn or transferred per month.
In general, you need to deposit €800 for each month you plan to spend in Germany. This means you have to deposit a sum of €10,000 if you want to spend one year in Germany. Including fees and a safety buffer of €100, you will usually need to transfer €10,445 for your blocked account in case of a 12 months’ stay in Germany. However, you do not have to worry about these details now. All relevant questions will be clarified during the online opening of your new blocked account.
Will quarantine costs be covered by the foreign health insurance?
Quarantine costs are not covered by the foreign health insurance.
Quarantine is often prescribed as a precautionary measure. This is not a medically necessary treatment. If you fall ill with the coronavirus during quarantine, the treatment is of course insured.

Which type of visa is the right type?
Because there are many types of Visas out there, be careful which one you apply to depending on the reason you want to go to Germany. If you want a new job then apply for a Job Seeker Visa, if you want to study there then the Studying & Language Learning Visa is the right one. If you want to travel around or need a visa for a short business trip to Germany, then apply for the Schengen Visa or the Tourist and Visitor Visa. And lastly, if you want to go there to be reunited with your relatives, apply for the Family Reunion Visa.
Your family will be covered by public health insurance, too, if you have public health insurance during your studies.
In case you cannot take out public health insurance due to your age or because you take part in preparatory courses, you can take out EDUCARE24 for yourself and your family. Please note that all members of your family need to choose the same tariff.
Our online consulting tool will show you which EDUCARE24 tariff (S, M, L or XL) is the right choice for you and your family. Just get started.
Will my current health insurance be sufficient for my studies in Germany?
For students from non-European countries the answer is “no”. If you come from a non-European country, taking out a German health insurance is required by law. Without a German health insurance you will not get a visa and cannot enroll at a German university.
For students from Europe the requirements are not that strict. However, we recommend you seek advice from your health insurance provider.
What should you do if you are dissatisfied with what your country has to offer and you want to move somewhere cheap with many opportunities?
Some want to explore a new place and learn about a different culture, some want a better job because they’re not satisfied with the one in their home-country and some want to finish their studies. What if you can do all of that in one place with reasonable living/studying prices? Applying for a German Visa is one of the best things you can do for a better future!
